About Me
Here is a little about me, my name is Claire Perilli. I have been involved with horses for more than half my life, dressage in my youth (winning the South African dressage championship at the age of 17) and more recently Horse Agility with my team of miniature horses.
I joined The International Horse Agility Club in 2016 and have competed almost every month since then.
2019 was my most successful year ever becoming World Horse Agility Champion with Sherwoods Unique Bay Boy aka Vin, the first miniature horse to ever win this award, and Runner-Up World Liberty Champion with Arcadia Farm Lorenzo aka Enzo. We also won the 2019 Australasian Championship in both On-lead with Vin and Liberty with Enzo.  In 2019, I became the first Horse Agility Accredited Trainer in New Zealand.
Another great horse agility year in 2020 with Enzo becoming 2020 Australasian Champion in both on-lead and the liberty section.
What is Horse Agility
Horse Agility is turned 10 years old last year! So what is Horse Agility? It is a sport where the ultimate aim is for the handler to direct their horse at liberty over, through and under obstacles, just like Dog Agility. It tests the horse’s physical as well as their emotional fitness, and tests the handler’s ability as a trainer to keep the horse travelling safely over the course effectively and with style. Horse Agility offers Easy through to Challenging classes in On lead, Liberty, Walk Only classes and Equagility (In Equagility the horse and handler complete an obstacle course then complete the same course ridden.)

This sport is great for people who can’t or don’t want to ride, or disabled people who are unable to ride but can move alongside a horse as it completes the obstacle course. It is perfect for horses that are unable to be ridden for behavioural or physical reasons and ponies that are too small for an adult rider. Horse Agility can also be good for young horses that aren’t ready to be ridden and greatly improves the trusting relationship needed between horse and handler. In short, the sport of Horse Agility offers riding and non-riding horse lovers a completely new way of being involved in a competitive equestrian sport that is active and exciting which has never been available to them before. It provides horses with real life skills - teaching them to go through narrow gaps in horse agility, helps them go through narrow gateways or the confined spaces of a float, walking over tarps and mats helps out hacking walking over bridges or again the change of surface in a float.
